
We typically organize a few events each quarter in the Detroit area for our members to volunteer. These events range from fundraising, to delivering fresh food, to working at local food banks and soup kitchens. Events that are not full will be closed 7 days before they take place.

May 31st, 2026 – Volunteers Celebration and New Member Recruit

Description: The Food Lounge hosted a community picnic to thank its volunteers and welcome potential new members. Attendees enjoyed food, games, and networking while learning about volunteer opportunities, leadership roles, and the organization’s ongoing efforts to address food insecurity throughout Southeast Michigan.
May 22nd-23rd, 2026 – Gardening Project
Time: 6:00PM-8:00PM
Location: Troy City Farm, Troy, MI 48084
Description: The Food Lounge Detroit volunteers gathered at Troy Farm to plant seeds and grow vegetables for donation to local food banks. Participants helped prepare garden beds, plant crops, and maintain the garden, supporting efforts to provide fresh produce to families in need.
May 17th, 2026 – Spring Seeding Sale Fundraiser

Description: The Food Lounge organized a spring seedling fundraiser featuring a variety of locally grown vegetable and herb plants. Community members supported the fundraiser while preparing their home gardens for the growing season, helping raise funds for local food security and outreach programs.
April 2nd, 2026 – Open Door Ministries Volunteering

Febuary 22nd, 2026 – Lunar New Year Eastern Market Fundraising
Time: 11:00AM-3:00PM
Location: 1445 Adelaide St., Detroit, MI 48207
Description: Held at Eastern Market, this Lunar New Year fundraiser featured homemade cultural foods, beverages, and festive accessories prepared by student volunteers. The event successfully raised over $2,000 to support The Food Lounge Michigan’s efforts to combat food insecurity and expand community outreach programs in Michigan.
January 24th, 2026 – Food Pantry Volunteering

Description: The Food Lounge Detroit volunteers spent the day assisting at a local food pantry in Pontiac. Volunteers helped clients select groceries, organized food supplies, and loaded boxes into vehicles for distribution. The event provided direct support to community members while promoting service, teamwork, and food security awareness.
January 19th, 2026 – Color a Smile Volunteering
Time: 1:00-3:00PM

Description: A volunteer opportunity for everyone, volunteers color coloring pages and invite others to join. The coloring pages are mailed to senior citizens, troops overseas, hospitals, or anyone in need of a smile.
November 29th, 2025 – Food Gatherers Volunteering

Description: In general, volunteers will typically sort rescued foods (such as produce), repackage bulk foods, or get boxes with pre-selected items packed for distribution.
November 22nd, 2025 – Annual Turkey Drive

Description: The Food Lounge Detroit partnered with Oakland Hope to distribute Thanksgiving turkeys to families in need. Volunteers helped organize donations and support distribution efforts, providing holiday meals to local households while strengthening community connections.
November 24th, 2025 – Harvest for the Holiday Season

Description: The Food Lounge Detroit volunteered at Forgotten Harvest Farm in Fenton, helping harvest fresh produce for local food assistance programs. Volunteers worked together to support food recovery efforts and increase access to nutritious food for communities in need.

Description: The Food Lounge Detroit hosted a school supply drive to collect essential educational materials for local students. Community members donated school supplies that were distributed to families in need, helping students begin the academic year equipped and ready to learn.

June 19th, 2025 – Sterling Heights Garden Volunteering

Description: The volunteers went to our new Sterling Heights Garden to help with the initial setup. They helped install the self watering system, as well as watered the garden plot.
June 7th, 2025 – Chinese School of Greater Detroit Fundraiser

Description: Volunteers helped to make food like lamb skewers, onigiri, drinks and various desserts to sell at the Chinese School of Greater Detroit annual food sale. Our volunteers manned a busy booth and made a total of $927.
May 4th, 2025 – Plant Fundraiser
Description: The volunteers at The Food Lounge Detroit dedicated their time to grow and sell plants to fundraise money.

April 20th, 2025 – Amy’s Rays of Sunshine
Description: Our members at The Food Lounge Detroit dedicated their time and support in hand-drawing feel-better cards for Amy’s Rays of Sunshine gives young adult patients who are starting their bone marrow transplant a box of 90 inspirational and caring messages

March 29th, 2025 – Salvation Army Book Donation
Description: Volunteers donated six boxes, totaling over 460 books of various kinds, to the Salvation Army Family Store and Donation Center in Southfield.
Feburary 2025 – GotSneakers
Description: Volunteers donated clean, used shoes to the GotSneakers organization to help them recycle athletic shoes and repurpose the material and reduce waste.

January 19th, 2025 (Friday) – Gleaners Kroger Food Drive
Time: 10:00AM – 12:00PM
Description: Volunteers under The Food Lounge Detroit partnered with Gleaners to raise money and food donations for families in need. In total, they sent gathered more than 100 dollars and 3 whole grocery carts full of food.
January 4th, 2025 (Friday) – Oakland HOPE Food Pantry

Description: The volunteers under The Food Lounge Detroit partnered with The Oakland Hope Center to grocery shop for families in need. In total, they sent out 203 grocery carts full of food.

Description: Volunteers helped donate and distribute 50 turkeys to enlighten the Thanksgiving to families all over Michigan, in hopes of bringing them some holiday spirit.

September 21th, 2024 (Saturday) – Detroit Meihua Fundraising

Description: Volunteers helped to make food like croissants, taiwanese rice, and cold noodles to sell at the Meihua Chinese Event. Our volunteers manned a booth on a hot day and made a total of $415.

August 26th, 2024 (Monday) – Oakland Hope School Supply Drive
Description: The volunteers helped gather and organize the school supplies donated for Oakland Hope’s clients. They helped unload the boxes to the Oaklang Hope facility.
August 25th, 2024 (Sunday) – School Supply Fundraising
Description: The volunteers helped make homemade baked goods. These goods were sold, raising $174 all used to support the back-to-school supply drive.

Description: Both students and parents helped sort 2,200 pounds of dairy, 505 pounds of produce, and also helped the Food Gatherers clear many boxes of food which needed to be composted.
