We typically organize a few events each quarter in the RTP area for our members to volunteer. These events range from fundraising to delivering fresh food, to working at local food banks and soup kitchens. Events that are not full will be closed 7 days before they take place.

On November 17th, The Food Lounge – RTP took part in CSS’s Greenway Cleanup. We helped pick up litter such as bottles and cans, which we collected into trash bags.

On November 10th, The Food Lounge’s RTP volunteers completed community services at Sears Farm Road Park. We spent many hours in the afternoon cleaning up the park’s litter and collected many trash bags.

On November 9th, The Food Lounge – RTP processed and donated over 100 pairs of shoes to GotSneakers(a recycling and reusing sneaker company), saving 100 pairs of shoes from the landfill.

On November 1st, The Food Lounge – RTP donated 3000 dollars to WCPSS Child Nutrition Services. They earned this money through their hard work in multiple events, especially the Dragon Boat fundraiser sale and individual student tutors. It was wonderful sharing this joy with children in need!

Hurricane Helene devastated western North Carolina, causing over 100 deaths and bringing calamity to the state. Joining the large effort to provide assistance, The Food Lounge — RTP collected multiple boxes full of supplies, water, and food to send to Fo Guang Shan temple for shipment and donation. As a volunteer organization emphasizing community, kindness, and humanity, we hope our actions can help the many victims affected by the disaster.

On October 5th, volunteers of The Food Lounge, in cooperation with Cary Chinese School, set up a donation site for food, hygiene, and personal items to give to people living in areas in western North Carolina impacted by Hurricane Helene. Volunteers in two shifts spent 4 hours organizing and packaging donated items dropped off by parents of CCS.

On October 3rd, members of The Food Lounge — RTP attended an orientation session for Dorcas Ministries, another volunteer and donation organization. They received a tour and information on volunteering opportunities.

On September 28th, 2024, volunteers of the Food Lounge RTP completed food preparation for a fundraising event as a food vendor in the 9th Dragon Boat Festival venue to donate net proceedings to North Carolina Wake County Public School meal programs in support of students in need of food. The volunteers performed tasks such as preparing meat skewers, mixing noodles, making lemonade & boba, and face painting.

On August 24th, The Food Lounge – RTP volunteered at the 48th annual Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival. Volunteers were trained on how they were to help out at the festival the day before. On the day of the festival, they worked as booth sitters, festival greeters, load in assistants, and as vendor hospitality.

On July 12th and 13th, dozens of volunteers from the RTP Food Lounge helped out in the pickleball tournament hosted by Dorcas Ministries (Pickleball Tournament: Dinking for Dorcas!). They performed various tasks, including managing the check-ins, assisting at the score and hospitality tables, and serving as court monitors.

On July 5th, volunteers of the RTP of The Food Lounge assisted in Camp China, a program for families with adopted Chinese children. Volunteers celebrated Chinese heritage through helping in traditional dinner, Mahjong, performances and dances, teaching cooking, greeting and assisting campers, and counseling.

Over the past couple of months, The Food Lounge members created, decorated, and wrote around 1,000 cards total for patients undergoing blood marrow transplant procedures who are isolated during the healing process. Each card is filled with a creative and artistic cover with inspirational and caring messages inside, hoping to lift the spirits of the receivers going through a hard time.

On April 27th, volunteers from The Food Lounge who had participated in the training session the previous week helped with the Spring Daze event. They helped booth sitters and vendors, informing customers about items and distributing food and snacks throughout the day.

On April 6th, The Food Lounge RTP volunteered at the Dorcas Ministries organization, sorting out toys and other goods donated by various individuals and packaging them to distribute to others.

On March 30th, RTP members of The Food Lounge participated in a tree planting project hosted by Trees of the Triangle, spending the morning caring for and planting tree saplings of species native to the RTP Triangle area. We donated four hours of our time to help restore Cary to its natural beauty and to help heal the Earth.

On March 17th, The Food Lounge members in the RTP area volunteered at the Tobacco Road Marathon and Half Marathon. They spent the entire day managing refreshments and the bag drop tents, cleaning up the race site, handing out medals, and many more tasks.

On January 24th, The Food Lounge RTP volunteers participated in the Warehouse Project. They joined other volunteers and sorted out, organized, and bagged a plethora of foods collected from corporate and individual donations at The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.

On December 16, 2023, Food Lounge members of the RTP volunteered and put on a concert featuring around 20 young musicians of various instruments for the elderly at Chapel Hill. We were met with very positive responses and spent their afternoon sharing the holiday spirit!

On December 9th, many volunteers who play various musical instruments such as piano, violin, flute, clarinet, saxophone, and trumpet gathered together for a rehearsal in preparation for an upcoming concert at a senior nursing home. In the event, we rehearsed many duets, trios, and solo excerpts from famous musical works.

November 22, 2023 (Wednesday) — Music Group Concert

On November 22nd, members of the Food Lounge RTP’s Music Group got together to perform many pieces of music for a concert at a senior nursing home in Apex. The concert featured over 20 young musicians playing various instruments and had a very positive outcome.

November 18, 2023 (Saturday) — Music Group Dress Rehearsal

On November 18th, many volunteers who play various musical instruments such as piano, violin, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, and French horn gathered together for a dress rehearsal and ran through the program in preparation for the upcoming concert on the 22nd. We rehearsed different selections of various pieces for 3 hours total.

November 10, 2023 (Friday) — Sears Farm Road Park Cleanup

On November 10th, The Food Lounge’s RTP volunteers completed community services at Sears Farm Road Park. We spent three hours in the afternoon cleaning up the park’s litter and collected many trash bags.

November 1, 2023 (Wednesday) — Music Group Practice

On November 1st, many volunteers who play various musical instruments such as piano, violin, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, and French horn gathered for a rehearsal in preparation for a concert at a senior nursing home. In the event, we rehearsed many duets, trios, and a section of a solo for 4 hours in total.

September 25, 2023 (Monday) — Dragon Boat Festival Donation

On September 25th, 2023, the listed volunteers arrived at WCPSS CNS and handed over two checks of total $921.40 from the proceedings of a recent fundraising event that the Food Lounge NC RTP performed as a food vendor at the 8th Dragon Boat Festival. The two checks are paid to Enloe High School CNS and Carnage Middle School CNS, respectively.

September 16, 2023 (Saturday) — Dragon Boat Festival Fundraising

On September 16th, 2023, volunteers of the Food Lounge RTP completed a fundraising event as a food vendor in the 8th Dragon Boat Festival venue and sold food and drink to donate net proceedings to North Carolina Wake County Public School meal programs in support students in need in food. The volunteers performed tasks such as booth management, promotion/advertising, customer service, packing and selling food, delivery, and taking orders.

On August 27th, 29 members of the RTP Food Lounge volunteered for the annual Lazy Daze arts festival in Cary. Our members helped artists manage 26 of their booths in total as well as helped many on-site visitors. We are so proud of our members for serving the community by assisting artists in this festival!
