We typically organize a few events each quarter in the Austin area for our members to volunteer. These events range from fundraising, to delivering fresh food, to working at local food banks and soup kitchens. Events that are not full will be closed 7 days before they take place.

Past Austin Events

Inspecting, sorting, and repackaging of donated food items for community distribution.

On July 6th, our team of 11 from TFL Austin volunteered at the Central Texas Food Bank. The team helped inspect, weigh, and bag food items to be distributed to communities in central Texas. In total, we helped provide around 8,667 meals.

Restocking and Cleaning Community Pantries and Fridges.

On June 15, our team of 8 cleaned and sanitized the ATX free community fridges at the Brentwood and West Campus locations. We also brought $110 worth of groceries and restocked the fridges and pantries with fresh produce, bread, deli items, cheese, non-perishable items, juice, and 50 bottles of water for those in need in our community.

Cooking, cleaning, and servicing at the Ronald McDonald House Center.

On June 13, our team of 7 cooked ground beef spaghetti, potato salad, and garlic broccoli at the Ronald McDonald House for families of hospitalized children so they could enjoy home-cooked meals. In total, we prepared 29 meals with some extra.

On 6/09, a team of six from TFL Austin volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House. They helped cook and prepare meals for the people in need at the house. In total, they prepared 25 meals for brunch.

On June 6, our team of 10 volunteered at the Charlie Center. We distributed mail and prepared and served BBQ chicken, macaroni and cheese, salad, fruit, and dessert to people experiencing homelessness. In total, we helped 110 people and served around 140 hot meals.

Our team of 7 TFL Austin volunteers helped out at the Charlie Center. They helped sort mail for the homeless and prepared and served dishes like casserole, garlic bread, salad, and dessert. In total, we helped 91 people in need and served around 120 meals.

Our team of 5 from TFL Austin volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House. The team helped cook and prepare meals for families and friends in need at the hospital. In total, they prepared 25 meals.

Our team of three TFL Austin volunteers helped out at Angel Soup Kitchen. They helped roll plasticware and prepared 270 meals.

Our team from TFL Austin volunteered at the Central Texas Food Bank. The team of 10 helped bag, inspect, and weigh produce bags of vegetables like zucchini, potatoes, and sweet potatoes to be distributed to those in need. Some volunteers also processed trash to be recycled. In total, we helped prepare 7958 meals, 810 bags and 9550 pounds of food.

Our team of 8 volunteered at the Charlie Center on March 13, 2024. They helped serve hot meals including king ranch chicken casserole, salad, veggies, oranges and dessert, and helped distribute mail to people experiencing homelessness. In total, they served approximately 130 people and around 160 meals.

Our team of 7 volunteers helped prepare breakfast and lunch at the Angel House Soup Kitchen. The group poured coffee and bagged lunches with snacks and hot stew. In total, they prepared around 350 meals for people experiencing homelessness.

On Saturday February 24th, our team from TFL Austin volunteered at the Central Texas Food Bank. The team of 13 helped bag, inspect, and weight produce bags to be distributed to those in need. Some volunteers also processed trash to be recycled. In total, we helped prepare 8730 meals, 1040 bags and 10480 pounds of food.

February 18 (Sunday) – Ronald McDonald House

Cooking, cleaning, and servicing at the Ronald McDonald House Center.

On Sunday February 18th, 6 volunteers from TFL cooked chicken fried rice, garlic broccoli, and coleslaw at the Ronald McDonald House. These meals are provided to families of hospitalized children with the philosophy that families shouldn’t have to worry about food when their child is gravely ill. In total, we prepared 25 homemade meals plus some extra.

January 13 (Saturday) – Central Texas Food Bank

On 1/13, a team from TFL Austin volunteered at the Central Texas Food Bank. The team of 14 helped boxed and inspect emergency boxes to be distributed to those in need. Some volunteers also processed trash to be recycled. In total, we helped prepare 7750 meals.

January 3, 2023 (Wednesday) – Charlie Center

Help homeless individuals easily access healthcare services and housing navigation.

Our team of 6 volunteers helped prepare and serve lunch at the Charlie Center. The group helped serve hot meals including casseroles, chicken alfredo, salad, veggies, and dessert (parfait, pancake bake), and also helped distribute mail to the people experiencing homelessness. In total, they served 104 people and around 150 meals.

December 27, 2023 (Wednesday) – Caritas of Austin Kitchen

Preparing and serving lunch to people experiencing homelessness and in need of quality meals.

Our team of 5 volunteers helped prepare lunch at Caritas Community Kitchen. The group prepared hot meals including salad, chicken, green beans, and potatoes, and bagged lunches-to-go. In total, they prepared around 250 meals for people experiencing homelessness.

December 20, 2023 (Wednesday) – Cook from Home for Charlie Center

Cook food at home in small groups to be delivered to those in need.

Our team of 7 volunteers prepared dishes in the past few days to be distributed to those in need. The dishes included 2 large trays of pancakes and three large trays of fruit parfaits. In total, they helped feed about 80 people.

December 16, 2023 (Saturday) – Central Texas Food Bank

Our team of 7 volunteers helped prepare fresh produce at the Central Texas Food Bank. The group along with other volunteers inspected and packaged various vegetables like squash, carrots, and sweet potatoes. In total, they helped prepare more than 9000 pounds of food for a total of over 7500 meals.

December 3, 2023 (Sunday) – Brown Santa

Gift Wrapping for kids and family for Brown Santa.

Our team of 52 volunteers from The Food Lounge Austin completed a gift-wrapping service for the Brown Santa program, which provides gifts during the holiday season to families in need. In total, we wrapped approximately 600 (estimate) gifts that are ready to be distributed to those less fortunate. We also donated toys and puzzles to the program with a total value around $400. In addition, three of the members provided live music to the program which was greatly appreciated.

November 23, 2023 (Thursday) – Turkey Trot

A team of 7 volunteers from The Food Lounge Austin completed water distribution on November 23, 2023, at the Turkey Trot, an Austin Thanksgiving tradition with 100% of all proceeds going directly to Caritas of Austin, an organization that works to end homelessness in the Austin community. The team greeted people at the finish line and gave away approximately 7,000 bottles of water.   

November 20, 2023 (Monday) – Central Texas Food Bank

Inspecting, sorting, and repackaging of donated food items for community distribution.

Our team of 12 volunteers from TFL Austin helped prepare food at the Central Texas Food Bank. The group along with other volunteers inspected and packaged meals for the Hunger Action Month program. In total, they helped prepare 504 boxes, each weighing roughly 30 pounds, for a total of 12600 meals and 15120 pounds of food for the hungry.

November 5, 2023 (Sunday) – Angel House Soup Kitchen

Our team of 10 volunteers helped prepare breakfast and lunch at the Angel House Soup Kitchen. The group poured coffee and bagged lunches with snacks and hot stew. In total, they prepared around 300 meals for people experiencing homelessness.

October 21, 2023 (Saturday) – Central Texas Food Bank

Inspecting, sorting, and repackaging of donated food items for community distribution.

Inspired by the Hunger Action Month, TFL Austin volunteers took action at the Central Texas Food Bank. The team of 13 alongside other fellow volunteers inspected, sorted, and boxed a total of 3,600 pounds of food (3,000 meals) to be distributed to those in need.

October 21, 2023 (Saturday) – Hope Fest

Water and Food distribution/clean up.

Our team of 7 volunteers helped prepare and serve food during the annual Hope Fest at Northeast HS. The group along with other volunteers prepared and served food and water to the estimated 4,000 attendees of the Hope Fest. Afterwards, the group cleaned and stacked the tables and chairs, and disassembled the food service tents.

September 30, 2023 (Saturday) – Central Texas Food Bank

Our team of 15 volunteers helped prepare food at the Central Texas Food Bank. The group along with other volunteers inspected and packaged bread and pastries for the Hunger Action Month program. In total, they helped prepare 330 boxes, each weighing roughly 12 pounds, for a total of 3,300 meals worth of bread and pastries.

September 3, 2023 (Sunday) – Austin Baptist Chapel-Angel House Soup Kitchen

Preparing breakfast and lunch for the homeless.

Our team of 10 volunteers helped prepare breakfast and lunch at the Angel House Soup Kitchen. The group poured coffee and created lunch sacks with hot soup. In total, they helped prepare 490 meals for people in need of a quality meal.

August 20, 2023 (Sunday) – Austin Baptist Chapel-Angel House Soup Kitchen

Our team volunteered at Angel Soup Kitchen, preparing breakfast and lunch for people in need of a quality meal. The group poured and served coffee, wrapped snack bags, and packaged meals. They packed about 450 breakfasts/lunches with hot soups and sandwiches.

August 11, 2023 (Friday) – Caritas of Austin Kitchen

Preparing and serving lunch to people experiencing homelessness and in need of quality meals.

On Friday 8/11, a group of 6 volunteered at Caritas of Austin Kitchen to prepare and serve lunch to people experiencing homelessness and in need of a quality meal. They prepared pasta, chicken salad wraps, portioned desserts, fruit cups, salads, and bagged these lunch packs to serve the people. Afterwards, they washed the dishes/cutlery and cleaned up the community kitchen and dining area. In total, our group served 274 meals.

August 9, 2023 (Wednesday) – Charlie Center

Help homeless individuals easily access healthcare services and housing navigation.

A team of 9 volunteers from The Food Lounge completed food and mail service at the Charlie Center on Aug 9, 2023. The group served lunch to people experiencing homelessness and in need of a quality meal. They prepared utensils, provided drinks, portioned food, and served meals. They also sorted and organized mail systems for the Center and completed mail/bus pass distribution. In total they successfully served approximately 170 hot meals and served about 140 people, which is a new record for the Center.

July 29, 2023 (Saturday) – Central Texas Food Bank

18 members of The Food Lounge volunteered at the Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB) on July 29, 2023. They inspected, sorted, and bagged food items to distribute to the Central Texas communities. In total, they helped provide over 2,925 pounds of food for 2,438 meals.

July 17, 2023 (Monday) – Caritas of Austin Kitchen

The group prepared and served lunch to people experiencing homelessness and in need of a quality meal. They prepared drinks, cut vegetables, made salad, portioned dessert, and packed to-go lunches. Each volunteer helped at various lunch stations, including serving, bussing, running, dessert, to-go preparation, and dish washing. Once the lunch service concluded, the team proceeded to clean up the kitchen and dining area. In total they successfully served over 250 meals and prepared extra ingredients for future use. We appreciate their time and effort for this event!

June 17, 2023 (Saturday) – Central Texas Food Bank

On June 17th, 21 of The Food Lounge Austin’s members volunteered at the Central Texas Food Bank. We inspected, sorted, and boxed donated food items to distribute to central Texas communities and families. In total, we completed approximately 60 boxes and helped provide 1563 pounds of food for 1563 meals to our neighbors in need.

June 12, 2023 (Monday) – Caritas of Austin Kitchen

The group prepared and served lunch to people experiencing homelessness and in need of a quality meal. They prepared drinks, cut vegetables, made salad, portioned dessert, and packed to-go lunches. Each volunteer helped at various lunch stations, including serving, bussing, running, dessert, to-go preparation, and dish washing. Once the lunch service concluded, the team proceeded, to clean up the kitchen and dining area. In total they successfully served over 200 meals and prepared extra ingredients for future use.

June 7, 2023 (Wednesday) – Cook from Home

Cook food at home in small groups to be delivered to those in need.

In the past few days, 10 members of the The Food Lounge Austin prepared dishes to be distributed to those in need. The dishes included oven roasted potatoes, mixed greens, sauteed broccoli, and pasta with marinara sauce. We also received a donation of 10 dozen donuts from Krispy Kreme, and a $100 shopping card from Costco. Thank you so much!

June 4, 2023 (Sunday) – Austin Baptist Chapel-Angel House Soup Kitchen

12 volunteers from The Food Lounge Austin volunteered at Angel House Soup Kitchen on June 4, 2023. They prepared and packed hot breakfasts and lunches for people in need of a quality meal. They packed about 200 breakfasts and 200 lunches.

We inspected, sorted, and boxed donated food items to distribute to central Texas communities and families. In total, we completed approximately 400 boxes and helped provide 10584 pounds of food for 8820 meals to our neighbors in need.

April 29, 2023 (Saturday) – Kids Fest

On 4/29/2023, 11 volunteers from TFL Austin volunteered at Kids Fest.

We packed bags of groceries, set up tables, portioned and distributed lunch to volunteers and vendors, and clean up. In total, we packed an estimated 150 bags and served meals about 300 people.

April 21, 2023 (Friday) – Central Texas Food Bank

On 4/21/2023, 6 members of The Food Lounge Austin volunteered at the Central Texas Food Bank. We inspected, sorted, and boxed donated food items. In total, we helped provide over 542 pounds of food for 450 meals.

April 15, 2023 (Saturday) – Urban Roots Farm

Planting, growing, and harvesting crops to combat food insecurity.

A team of 22 members of The Food Lounge Austin volunteered at the Urban Roots farms on April 15, 2023. We pulled weeds, organized seeds, and planted and watered vegetables to help grow fresh food to distribute to our neighbors in need.

March 16, 2023 (Thursday) – Cook from Home

Cook food at home in small groups to be delivered to those in need.

In the past few days, 22 members of the The Food Lounge Austin prepared dishes to be distributed to those in need. The dishes included fried rice, spaghetti and meatballs, croissants, hamburgers, chicken and veggies, lasagna, dumplings, and desserts. Then, five members of The Food Lounge Austin delivered and assisted in distributing the dishes, along with other entrees and desserts. In total, we helped feed an estimated 300+ individuals hot meals and drinks.

March 13, 2023 (Monday) – Central Texas Food Bank

On 3/13/2023, 16 members of The Food Lounge Austin volunteered at the Central Texas Food Bank. We inspected, sorted, and boxed donated food items. In total, we helped provide over 2700 pounds of food for 2250 meals.

February 20, 2023 (Monday) – Central Texas Food Bank

Inspection, sorting, and repackaging of donated food items for community distribution.

On 2/20/2023, 29 members of The Food Lounge Austin volunteered at the Central Texas Food Bank. We inspected, boxed, and cleaned donated food items, as well as sorting food donated by grocery stores. In total, we helped provide over 3600 pounds of food for 3000 meals, and prepared food for further processing.

February 17, 2023 (Friday) – Caritas of Austin Kitchen

10 Volunteers from The Food Lounge Austin volunteered at the Caritas of Austin Kitchen by preparing and serving lunch to individuals in need of a quality meal. They portioned desserts, cut fruits, and packed to-go lunches. Each volunteer also helped out at various lunch stations, including serving, bussing, running, dessert, to-go preparation, and dish washing. Once the lunch service concluded, the team proceeded to clean up the kitchen and dining area. In total we served over 180 meals and prepared extra ingredients for future use.

We inspected, cleaned, sorted, boxed and prepared donated food items to distribute to central Texas communities and families. In total, we boxed approximately 250 boxes and helped provide 2400 pounds of food for 2000 meals to our neighbors in need.

December 27, 2022 (Tuesday) – Central Texas Food Bank

On December 27, 2022, 21 members of The Food Lounge Austin volunteered at the Central Texas Food Bank. We inspected, cleaned, sorted, boxed, and prepared donated food items to distribute to central Texas communities and families. In total, we helped provide 8,190 pounds of food for 6,825 meals to our neighbors in need

December 20, 2022 (Tuesday) – Caritas Of Austin Kitchen

Preparing and serving lunch to people experiencing homelessness and in need of quality meals.

11 volunteers from The Food Lounge Austin volunteered at Caritas of Austin Kitchen, preparing and serving lunch to people in need of a quality meal. We cooked pot pie and pasta, portioned desserts, prepared fruit cups, and bagged sack lunches to serve. Afterward, we prepared jalapeños and onions for future use and cleaned up the community kitchen and dining area. In total we served 250 meals, and also prepared extra ingredients for future use.

November 24, 2022 (Thursday) – Turkey Trot

A team of 10 volunteers from The Food Lounge Austin completed water distribution on November 24, 2022, at the Turkey Trot, an Austin Thanksgiving tradition with 100% of all proceeds going directly to Caritas of Austin, an organization that works to end homelessness in the Austin community. November 20, 2022 (Sunday) – Gift Wrapping

Gift Wrapping for kids and family for Brown Santa.

Time: 1 PM -3 PM

Together with a team of 54 volunteers from The Food Lounge Austin, we completed a gift-wrapping service for the Brown Santa program that provides gifts during the holiday season to families in need. In total, we wrapped approximately 600 gifts that are ready to be distributed to those less fortunate. In addition, we donated two large bins full of gifts to the program with over $400 value.

October 22, 2022 (Saturday) – Hope Fest, Austin

Distributing food to low-income families.

Time: 11:30 AM – 3:00 PM

Together with a team of 16, we completed food service and water distribution at Hope Fest, Austin’s largest annual community-based resource fair, providing support for low-income families. We distributed water and served 1500 meals, cleaned up and tore down food service tents, and removed and stacked tables and chairs after the event.
